Østfold is the gateway to Norway, on the eastern side of the Oslo fjord, bordering Sweden. It lies on the east coast of the Oslo Fjord, bordering the county of Akershus to the north and Sweden to the east and south. Østfold has 6 towns and more than a 1000 islands along our endless coastline. No other place in Norway has more sun, and with its 100 beaches Østfold is often called the holiday paradise of the Oslo Fjord. With its 265 000 inhabitants Østfold represents about 5,6 % of Norway´s population of 4,7 million. The county consists of 18 municipalities is divided into four regions.
